  • If the fence is over 2m above natural ground level
  • If the fence forms part of a regulated pool barrier

Pool fencing compliance guidance

Pool fences and barriers must meet Queensland pool safety requirements and be kept in good condition.

In practical terms, pool fencing usually needs:

  • a compliant barrier height and gap limits (set by the standard)
  • a gate that self-closes and self-latches
  • a non-climbable zone on the outside, so climbable items need to be kept away from the fence line
  • certification where required, through the right path for your area (often via a building certifier and/or pool safety inspector, depending on the job)
